Sutter's Fort State Historic Park

Frommers's Review

John Sutter established this outpost in 1839, and the park, restored to its 1846 appearance, aims to recapture the spirit of 19th-century California. Exhibits include a blacksmith’s forge, cooperage, bakery, and jail -- and a self-guided audio tour is available. Demonstrations and reenactments in costume are staged daily Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Admission $4 adults, $2 for children 6-16, free for children 5 and under. Daily 10am-5pm.
