Farmhouse Inn, Forestville

Don’t let the outside of the Farmhouse Inn’s eight guest cottages fool you. At first glance these buildings tucked within a grove of trees look like roadside motel cabins. But step inside and you’ll see that these little lodges are actually quite luxurious, with plush carpets, wood-burning fireplaces, CD players, saunas, thick robes, featherbeds with down comforters and fine linens, European “rain” showerheads, and jumbo two-person Jacuzzis--all the toys you need for a romantic weekend in the Wine Country. The grounds, 6 acres of hills and redwoods, include a large swimming pool, a croquet course, and formal English gardens. Spa services--massages and facials--are also available. Guests gather for a hearty breakfast in the conservatory-style dining room or outdoors on the terrace. Expect to be treated to fruit, cereal, and hot dishes such as huevos rancheros or eggs Florentine. The inn’s restaurant is also open to the public for dinner Thursday through Monday.
