Less than a block from the ocean, the Lighthouse Lodge and Suites is really two entities with rather distinct personalities. The lodge consists of 64 motel-like rooms and suites—complete with large TVs, minibars, refrigerators, and microwaves—that are ideally suited for families, particularly when booked as part of the hotel’s discount vacation package. Those seeking more luxurious accommodations should spring for one of the 31 newer suites down the hill and across the road. The Cape Cod-style suites—all with beamed ceilings, plush carpeting, fireplaces, wing chairs, vast bathrooms with marble whirlpool tubs, large-screen TVs, mini-kitchens, and king-size beds—glow in peacock hues of purple, green, and fuchsia. The overall effect is a bit nouveau riche, but riche all the same. A full breakfast and afternoon poolside barbecue are included in the room rate. After breakfast take a morning stroll around the grounds, cleverly landscaped with fountains and native plants, or go for a swim in the outdoor heated pool. Pets are welcome for $25 a night.
