Take a culinary tour of Mainland China without ever leaving your table. Feast on dim sum from Guangzhou, banquet dishes from Shanghai and Beijing, dumplings and stretched noodles from Xian, and spicy favorites from Sichuan and Hunan—all from the kitchen of Lawrence Chu, the chef-owner who’s been expanding the culinary horizons of Los Altos for more than three decades. Chef Chu does all the standards well and offers some delicious innovations of his own, such as wok-seared scallops served in a spicy garlic sauce. Munch on jumbo prawns with candied pecans in a mild mustard sauce. The Peking duck, which must be ordered in advance, is crisp and flawless, with virtually all the fat melted away.
